Press Release The Co-ordinator Uganda Debt Network, Zie Gariyo has been shot. Mr. Gariyo is reported to have been shot by gun men late last evening and it has not yet been established whether they were mere robbers or an attempt to assassinate him. He is now lying in Mulago Hospital in critical condition. Mr. Gariyo was expected to give a keynote address at the Youth Conference to mark World Poverty Day this morning at Greenhill Academy. Later in the afternoon he was expected to give another keynote address at a Public Dialogue which is taking place at the International Conference Centre. Gariyo is a renown anti-corruption activist who is advocating for pro-poor policies to lift the standards of living of the poor people of this country. His latest campaign in this regard has been for government to reduce its expenditure on expensive vehicles and instead increase expenditure the monies put aside for availability of social services to the people.
