Jubilee 2000 is an international movement calling for:

• under a fair and transparent process

Soyinka Blasts World Bank, IMF. Nairobi, Kenya: The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have received a bashing from an unfamiliar quarter, Nigerian literature Nobel Prize laureate Wole Soyinka, the East African Standard reported.

Kohler and Wolfensohn should not have to come to Africa, to hear African voices, say debt group. The Mozambican Debt Group (GMD), the coalition of NGOs, churches and individuals, last week called for an increase in the voting power for Africa on the boards of the World Bank and the IMF.

Who's Not Dropped What
By the end of the year 2000, twenty-two countries should have received some debt relief. However Jubilee 2000 believes that the debt relief initiative has delivered too little and has excluded too many countries. This briefing at the end of the 'Jubilee year' analyses how much progress has been made, and how much further we still have to go to resolve the debt crisis once and for all.

 
Africa's debt currently stands at $231 billion. Jubilee 2000's report, Eye of the Needle: The Africa debt report catalogues in a country by country analysis, how debt continues to act as a fatal impediment to Africa's development in the new millennium.

Opponents of debt cancellation invariably cite corruption as a reason why debt relief should not be granted. Yet in Uganda, anti-corruption campaigners also lead the Jubilee 2000 campaign.
