Jubilee 2000 on November 11th launched a 'People's Millennium Write Down Book'. The aim of the book is to allow people over the next 50 days to express their hopes and dreams for the new millennium, to assert the need for meaningful debt cancellation, and to express their unease at grand, but so far empty, millennium gestures.
The book is hosted on the website, and is available for signing each day up until December 31st 1999, outside St Martin's in the Fields, Trafalgar Square. People are also launching books in venues across the country. These books will represent ordinary people's hopes and aspirations at an historic moment in time. We will keep you informed of locations for the books through our website here. Why not set up a book in your local cathedral, mosque, supermarket or town hall and then email us to tell us where it is?

On November 11th, Jubilee 2000 Coalition linked up with a coalition partner, Tearfund, and filmed people giving their millennium message on camera. Click here to see some of Jubilee 2000's millennium voxpops. (You will need Real Player to see these.)
The dawning of a new millennium is an auspicious moment
How we mark this moment will define the next one thousand years.
Debt bondage leads to a loss of autonomy and dignity
To disease, hunger, poverty and death.
Debt bondage is nothing more than a failure of human will.
In this book we, as members of the human family,
Will each write down and express
our hopes and dreams
our fixed determination
and our personal commitment
to a different world
in the new millennium.
So that the strength of our
collective human will
can bring an end
to the debt slavery that impoverishes a billion people.
